Draco-varanus Harpia

I wanted to create a dragon, but not like the standard Ford escort version that is everywhere' (you know the kind)... that have more spikes then a cactus, big chest plating, horns and the height of 4 cathedrals..oh and it definitely couldn't be sat on a castle with some guy holding a spear standing it down. There's loads of great art like that already :)

I created the Draco-varanus Harpia by drawing lots of basic silouhettes to figure out a good form. Once I decided on that I fleshed out the design using traditional media and references. I used Zbrush to create the 3D sculpt and XYZ alphas for skin details. The design was Polypainted and I used Zbrush BPR render passes to save into Photoshop to create an illustration of the Draco-varanus Harpia.
